A set of the 5 Platonic Solids precut and scored from white cardstock. These are shipped flat and require assembly. Perfect for teaching mathematics and geometry. Great for teaching shape recognition and the importance of polyhedrons and the platonic solids. They make an excellent mathematics related project out of coloring and constructing the platonic solids.
The 5 platonic solid shapes are included:
- Tetrahedron (4 sided)
- Cube (6 sided)
- Octahedron (8 sided)
- Dodecahedron (12 sided)
- Icosahedron (20 sided)
Each shape contains 0.25 inch (6 mm) long tabs to facilitate gluing the solid together. Typical school glues or all purpose glue works well. The shapes may be taped.
Approximate size of each shape ranges from about 1x1x1 inch (2.5x2.5x2.5 cm) for the smallest shapes up to about 3x3x3 inch (7.5x7.5x7.5 cm) for the icoasahedron. The equilateral triangles used to construct the tetrahedron, octahedron, and icosahedron are the same size.
A Platonic solid is a regular, convex polyhedron. The faces must be polygons that are congruent (identical in shape and size) and regular (all angles equal and all sides equal). Also, the same number of faces must meet at each vertex. These are the only 5 solids that meet the specific requirements.
