A 17 piece wooden set of Roman Numerals designed to teach recognition and counting in Roman Numerals. Each numeral is approximately 2 inches (5 cm) tall and 1/8 inch (3mm) thick. These manipulatives are great for a classroom setting, homeschooling, or tutoring.
Perfect for teaching your child a little history and how to read random things in modern society represented by Roman Numerals. Things such as which American Football Super Bowl we are on, the number on the book on the Statue of Liberty, the current year in Roman Numerals, which Star Wars Sequel they are watching, etc.
We recommend not learning Roman Numerals until the child can handle basic addition and subtraction in their head as Roman Numerals are a subtractive way of counting. Working on Roman Numerals is actually a pretty good way to practice an application of basic addition and subtraction, and counting by 10s and 100s.

The numerals fit comfortably in hand and have a pleasant weight. They are laser cut from high quality 1/8" (3 mm) thick 3-ply birch plywood.
The numerals are suitable for use in their unfinished state but may also be finished. They may be painted, stained, and/or varnished without trouble. Some finish sanding will be required if you desire a very smooth surface.
When cutting wood with a laser, wooden edges are noticeably darker than the top and bottom. The darkening is fairly uniform and some people prefer the contrast. However, if you do not like the darker edges, they may be removed by sanding.
